- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup pecans, roughly chopped
- 1 tbsp butter (for toasting pecans)
Instructions

Add peeled, cubed sweet potatoes to a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until very soft, about 15–18 minutes. - Toast the pecans:

Drain the cooked sweet potatoes well. Add butter, maple syrup, milk/cream, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Add more milk if you prefer a softer texture. - Taste & adjust:
Add additional maple syrup, salt, or spices to your liking. - Serve:
Transfer to a serving bowl. Top with toasted pecans and drizzle with extra maple syrup if desired.
Notes
- Drain the sweet potatoes thoroughly to avoid watery mash dryness gives you more control over the consistency.
- Taste the mash before adding the full amount of maple syrup; sweet potatoes vary in sweetness.
- Toasting the pecans is essential it brings out their natural oils and elevates the nuttiness.
